The Sailing Association of Marco Island (SAMI) installed its new officers (Bridge) for the year 2012. The event was held over a great dinner at Konrad’s Restaurant.
Past Commodore Don Mills served as master of ceremonies and introduced the outgoing Commodore Barbara Fleischer, who thanked her 2011 Bridge for its service. The outgoing Bridge included Dave Dumas vice commodore, MaryLee Cale, rear commodore, John Harkless fleet captain, Neva Nolan, secretary and Bill Schroeder, treasurer.
Commodore Fleischer then transferred the Commodore’s Flag to new Commodore Dave Dumas.
The rest of the 2012 Bridge consists of MaryLee Cale, vice commodore, John Weston, rear commodore, John Harkless, fleet captain, Neva Nolan, secretary and Nancy Meyers, treasurer.
Life memberships were awarded to Russ and Pat Rainey, both past commodores. Russ also had served as historian. Recognized in attendance was Helen Tateo, wife of the first commodore of the association.
SAMI was organized for people who enjoy the sport of sailing. As well as cruises and races, the club has social meetings, sometimes at restaurants and sometimes consisting of covered-dish dinners, often featuring speakers on related subjects. For information about the association’s activities and membership, call Sherri Heard or visit the website www.samisailor.org.
