For the second summer Mackle Park offers a variety of cooking and baking camps for the children of Marco Island. Last summer, we had a cooking camp that offered a variety of full, family meals for four, that was prepared each day of that camp week. We cooked on the grill, used the sauté pans and baked breads and key lime pie throughout the entire week.
This summer, we are serving the camp participants' families a variety of meals that will be focused on grilling meats and vegetables and mixing different marinades. The message of eating healthy and enjoying the benefits of grilling outdoors is a key component of the camp. The kids enjoy this camp because it allows them to be creative in the kitchen and outdoors and gives them the opportunity to serve their families through their personal learning experience on the grill. It is fun and hard work, but in the end the results speak for themselves, with full family tummies.
The Jr. Chef Grilling Camp runs Monday through Friday. Camp hours are from 9 a.m. to noon at the Island Racquet Center on San Marco Road. For any questions, or to register, (239) 642-0575.
