ST. PETERSBURG — Police in St. Petersburg shot at a car as it sped away from a tobacco shop where an armed robbery had taken place.
Authorities say one suspect was shot in the leg Thursday evening. Three juveniles — including one suspect who was left behind at the tobacco shop — were charged with armed robbery.
Police say the store's owner called 911 to report a robbery. As police officers were arriving, two suspects ran out and got into a vehicle. They sped away after hitting another car in the parking lot. The officers followed and one fired several times after a suspect pointed a rifle out of the window in the officer's direction.
The getaway car then struck a police vehicle, injuring an officer. The suspects were eventually taken into custody.
