Police: 14-year-old driver's crash may have killed 1 in Florida

ST. PETERSBURG — Tampa Bay-area police are investigating whether a man found dead in a front yard was killed by a 14-year-old driver.

St. Petersburg Police say the teen and a 12-year-old passenger were speeding early Sunday when the 14-year-old lost control of his car and crashed into a utility pole.

Police say the vehicle continued sliding until it came to rest in a front yard. The driver and passenger fled before police arrived, but police say both have been identified.

During the investigation, a man was found in the yard near the crash scene. The man was pronounced dead at a hospital. Police say investigators are trying to determine if the dead man was involved in the crash.

The man's name was not released, pending notification of next of kin.
