Middle school bookkeeper accused of stealing

A 32-year-old former bookkeeper is accused of stealing nearly $8,000 from Varsity Lakes Middle School in Lehigh Acres.

Yidenia Alonso, of the 1500 block of Gretchen Avenue, faces charges of grand theft and scheme to defraud.

A news release said Alonso collected money from ticket sales, concession stand sales and money that parents had given their children to attend the school’s morning program.

Between February of 2009 and March of 2010, she was given a total of $7,879.36, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said Alonso deposited the checks but pocketed some of the cash for herself. Following an investigation, the 32-year-old was arrested Monday and taken to the Lee County jail.

A spokeswoman from the school district said Alonso resigned in April of 2011.

21-year-old accused of pulling fire alarms

A 21-year-old Georgia man was arrested Monday after deputies said he set off false alarms, sending the fire department twice to an East Naples apartment.

When a deputy showed up to investigate the suspicious alarms at 4951 Pepper Circle, a man told the deputy that his boyfriend, Eric Austin Ellis, had pulled the fire alarms because he was intoxicated.

The deputy later approached Ellis, who gave a fake name and used an expletive toward the deputy. An arrest report also said the 21-year-old pulled away from the deputy as he was put in handcuffs.

Ellis, of Adairsville, Ga., faces charges of giving false information to an officer, resisting an officer without violence and discharging a false fire alarm. As of Tuesday, he remained held at the Naples Jail Center on bonds totaling $6,000.

Drug arrest

Gabriel Flores, 33, of the 4500 block of Eighth Ave. N.E., Golden Gate Estates, was arrested Monday by Collier deputies at the intersection of Davis Boulevard and Radio Road. He was accused of trafficking cocaine.

DUI arrest

Dominic J. Falcione, 39, of the 1300 block of West Lane, North Naples, was arrested Monday by Florida Highway Patrol troopers at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Seagate Drive. He faces additional charges of driving with a suspended license, failure to remain at a crash with injury, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, and five counts of DUI property damage. He also received citations for open container, driving a vehicle in unsafe condition and improper adjustment of brakes.

Grand theft arrests

Francisco J. Olvera, 36, of the 5500 block of Hemingway Circle, Golden Gate, was arrested Monday by Collier deputies at his home. He was accused of stealing two rings and faces additional charges of dealing in stolen property and defrauding a pawnbroker.

Michael Eugene Stevens, 55, of the 4300 block of Enterprise Avenue, East Naples, was arrested Monday by Collier deputies at his home. He was accused of stealing a motorized bicycle.
