A driver who struck an ATV in April, sending its two teenage riders to the hospital is facing several DUI charges stemming from the crash, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
Mark Tirado, 58, was driving a 2004 Acura east on 43rd Avenue Northeast in Golden Gate Estates the afternoon of April 2, when he struck the back of an ATV driven by 14-year-old Raul San Pedro, reports said. The crash caused the ATV to flip several times, throwing San Pedro and his passenger, Andrew Fernando Garcia.
Both teens were initially taken to Lee Memorial Hospital. San Pedro was then transferred to Tampa General, according to FHP.
Tirado suffered minor injuries in the wreck.
On Friday, troopers charged Tirado with DUI, two counts of DUI with serious bodily injury, two counts of DUI with property damage and careless driving.
