The Tropic Wave travel softball program competed in the I.S.A. 2012 "B" state tournament on July 7 in Bartow. The TW 14U team finished in second place following two days of demonstrating mental and physical toughness.
Several players excelled offensively — Navia Penrod homered, as did teammate Madi Cernohous, who hit an inside-the-park job. Casey Robbins also hit consistently all weekend.
Defensively, Hannah Henderson was strong in right field. Becca Gates and Michele Peterson tagged-up in the pitching circle.
Other members of the Tropic Wave 14U team include Cassidy Dvorsky, Lilly Hahn, Tori Owen, Ana Roldan, Sydney Sawyer and Catie Beth Varian. The coaches are Mark Peterson, Tony Gates, Greg Penrod and Lori Greco.
