Letter to the Editor: It’s a safety issue

"It’s a Safety Issue," was an important reason for the City Council to ban beach parking on the swales, near south beach at a special called meeting on July 16. Children were running into the streets as their parents were unloading their cars. Also, it was very difficult to see cars coming when drivers turned off Seagrape to Swallow Avenue, and for condo owners pulling from their driveways on to Swallow to see around the large campers, trucks, etc. parked on the swales.

This was also a quality of life issue as this is a residential area and was affecting the condo values.

Marco Island zoning administrator Joe Irvin and the Planning Committee worked diligently on this project, and we thank them for doing a great job and listening to our concerns. We appreciate the City Council for following the Planning Board’s recommendations.

The authors of this letter are patting themselves on the back for the unbounded selfishness in denying most islanders and visitor access to our beaches with a bunch of BS. Of course this would not have been possible without the endless arrogance of the City staff and councilors.

The rule is stupid. Council has an idea that Marco should be Rodeo Drive....we a re a beach and boat town. Plain and simple.
