Man arrested for embezzling $900,000 from SWFL non-profit

A Fort Myers man was arrested for embezzling more than $900,000 in funds from a Southwest Florida non-profit organization.

Robert Michael Eugene "Gene" Bruist, 35, was arrested and charged with Aggravated White Collar Crime, Grand Theft, Scheme to Defraud and Communications Fraud.

According to investigators, Bruist was the executive director for The Center for Independent Living of Southwest Florida (CILSWFL), a local non-profit that was providing services to persons with disabilities in Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry and Lee counties.
