A sharply dressed robber wearing two odd accessories — a nondescript ball cap and fanny pack — held up an East Naples bank Tuesday and eluded capture.

Collier sheriff’s deputies said a black man wearing a dark suit, white pinstripe shirt and dark tie robbed a Bank of America branch, 4898 Davis Boulevard, shortly before noon. The suspect brandished a handgun, pointed it at a teller and demanded cash, escaping with an undisclosed amount of money in a blue SUV or minivan, Collier sheriff’s Sgt. Brian Sawyer said.

Several people were in the bank at the time, but none were hurt.

“We obviously consider him armed and dangerous based on the fact that he did brandish the handgun,” Sawyer said. “Obviously several tellers were inside the store at the time and are concerned about it.”

Surveillance photos show a male of slender build wearing attire that Sawyer called “slightly unusual” for a bank robber. No further description of the suspect was available.

It’s not known in which direction the suspect fled, or if he had any accomplices.

Bystanders at the bank between Airport-Pulling and County Barn roads said about a half-dozen S.W.A.T. team members converged on the bank after the suspect fled, clearing the scene.

“There was no commotion, there was no loudness, there was no bang,” said Melissa Giddings, 33, of East Naples, who was visiting a friend working at nearby Kings Lounge. “The cops were here, it was taken care of and they did a good job.”

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the Collier County Sheriff’s Office at (239) 252-9300, or to remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-8477.
