— A 55-year-old woman was killed Tuesday night in San Carlos Park. The Lee County Sheriff's Office has ruled the death of Debra Striano a homicide.

Lee County sheriff’s detectives are conducting a death investigation in south Lee County.

Deputies were called to 17691 Oakmont Ridge Circle, just off Three Oaks Parkway and west of Interstate 75, around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tony Schall said. Neighbors reported seeing 10 to 15 patrol cars crowding the surrounding streets at about that time.

Neighbors said they were told by detectives the investigation is a domestic case.

The home is owned by Russell Porter Myers Jr., 45, according to the Lee County Property Appraiser’s website. Neighbors said Myers lives there with his longtime girlfriend, Debbie Striano, and their border collie Scruffy. Myers’ Facebook page said he enjoys music and gardening.

“They’re great neighbors; great wonderful people,” said Emile Pearl, 46, who lives a few doors down on Pittsburgh Boulevard. “We’re just hoping everyone is OK.”

Together, Myers and his girlfriend run a landscaping company, Russell Myers Lawncare and Landscaping Services, neighbors said.

“She does the billing. He runs the crews, I guess,” said Robert Salfeld, 45, who was watching detectives work the crime scene early Wednesday.

Before midnight, neighbors reported hearing an explosion that knocked out power to the neighborhood. Authorities said a transformer exploded, but it was unrelated to the death investigation.

“I looked out the window and thought it was an accident,” Pearl said. “It was so dark all you could see were tail lights.”
