Lely volleyball camp down to basics

— The Lely Volleyball Camp this week brought out some of its keep players and others with bright futures.

While the camp was open to anyone, most were Lely High players, looking to get a head start before tryouts begin on Aug. 6.

Coach Daniel Selvey headed the camp, assisted by two University of Miami volleyball graduates.

For the most part, the camp was about getting down to basics. Some 20 players took part.

Notable were two keys to last year's championship team, senior Katie Roche and sophomore Christy Thorstenson.

The Lady Trojans lost five seniors but Selvey see his next edition as being more versatile.

With a load of young talent Selvey thinks the team will have greater depth, with quality subs at every position,

Senior Mary Gibler, who underwent difficult shoulder surgery in the off season, has been released from physician care to start working into shape. She was the Naples Daily News Volleyball Player of the Year last season.

But for this week it was about arm swing, digs and more at a very encouraging volleyball camp.
