It's Your Biz: Free public relations seminar Thursday in Collier County

A free public relations seminar for representatives of Collier County tourism and hospitality businesses is from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort, 400 S. Collier Blvd.

The Naples, Marco Island, Everglades Convention and Visitors Bureau is holding the seminar to provide tips on how to communicate newsworthy information to local and national media.

Recognitions

LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort in North Naples has earned TripAdvisor's 2012 Certificate of Excellence. The accolade, which honors hospitality excellence, is given only to establishments that consistently achieve outstanding traveler reviews on TripAdvisor. About 10 percent of accommodations listed on TripAdvisor receive the award.

Shafer will implement and manage all marketing and communications for the law firm's five offices in Fort Myers, Naples, Cape Coral, Lehigh Acres and Port Charlotte. Community service

Various businesses have agreed to sponsor the second Father's Day event June 15-16 at Dunbar High School in Fort Myers. The event promotes President Obama's nationwide Fatherhood and Mentoring Initiative, which encourages individuals, especially fathers, to be involved in the lives of their children and be positive role models and mentors for the children in their lives and communities.

Sponsors include Gold Sponsor Solomon Air Conditioning, Silver Sponsor Norstar Development USA and Bronze Sponsor TAG Associates. All events are at Dunbar High School, 3800 East Edison Ave. The event kicks off with a basketball tournament from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, June 15, and resumes at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 16.
