Boy hides under bed, calls police when teens break into Florida home

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — An 11-year-old boy hid under his bed and called his father when he heard glass shattering at his Hollywood home.

Authorities say Luis Gutierrez told his son — also named Luis — to call 911 Thursday afternoon. The boy stayed on the line with dispatchers while three teenagers who broke into his Hollywood home.

Hollywood police Lt. Nikki Coffin calls the boy brave.

The Miami Herald reports police arrived at the home about 5:45 p.m., just in time to catch the suspects.

The child let dispatchers know which room he was hiding in and they rescued him through a window.

The three suspects are all 17. They were taken into custody and charges are pending.
