Ought to be a law
Recently, a good friend of mine was fired for no fault of her own. She had been employed by a local pub for over 13 years.
Not only did she not receive any severance pay, but they did not even have the decency to pay her vacation pay. The owners had closed one of their other locations earlier this year due to problems and basically wanted to make room for their manager at the failing location that was closed.
I do not believe this should be legal, but apparently Florida is a fire-at-will state.
This state needs to implement laws to protect employees from employers that have no conscience and would fire a dedicated employee for their own personal agenda.
