A fire at a Marco Island condominium Thursday night displaced several residents as smoke filled the building.
The fire started around 8 p.m. on the ninth floor of the 22-story Royal Seafarer, 300 S. Collier Blvd, Marco Island Fire Chief Mike Murphy said.
The building was evacuated, and by 9:30 p.m. firefighters had put out the fire. Six people left inside were rescued and treated for smoke inhalation, Murphy said.
More than 50 firefighters responded, and the fire was contained to a single unit on the ninth floor, Murphy said. As of late Thursday, the fire’s cause had not yet been determined.
