South Beach on Marco Island got back to vacation activity on Wednesday after rainy, sloppy weather spoiled the last four days. Rylen Ritter and Rita Daniel of Galeno, Ohio, ignored the seaweed that planted itself on the beach to make sand castles and sandy alligators, Tom Sampley of Naples searched for coins and more and other vacationers got back to taking their usual walks.

Tom Sampley of Naples stops to dig a hole to check out what his metal detector had uncovered. Sampley found a silver cross, quarters and pennies, fish hooks and an Allen Wrench, but no pot of gold. It marked the first day in four where tourists and visitors got to spend a sunny day on Marco Island Beach.

Finally, Marco Island beachgoers officially said goodbye to Tropical Storm Debby and got back to what they wanted to do most — enjoy the beach front.

While the waves still churned and the wind was brisk, people from around the country enjoyed the day, Sunbathing, shelling, surfing and fishing brought back the good old vacation feelings.

Between waves, Don Shaurette of Buford, Ga., tried his luck at fishing. Daughter Danielle of Alexandria, Va., added shells to her collection that she wouldn't find on northern beaches.

Youngsters Jack and Kaya Myers, Elena, Elice and Olivia Dinehart, all of Miami, finally had a nice day, unfortunately their last on Marco Island.

Rylen Ritter and Rita Daniel of Galena, Ohio, enjoyed making sand castles and a few sandy alligators.

Now a nice stretch is needed for the weekend and Fourth of July week.
