NAPLES — In what is being called the “Play for Blue” tennis event, the Naples Community Tennis Center is hoping to raise some “green” for charity Saturday on its green clay courts.
Proceeds will go toward raising funds for research and awareness for prostate cancer.
Play for Blue was conceived in February of 2008 by two prostate cancer survivors. Play for Blue’s mission is to improve the quality of men’s lives by promoting charitable events to support prostate cancer research, awareness and education on a local, national and global level.
This event will be a round-robin for men and women of all levels. Play will run from 8:30 a.m. until about 2 p.m. The cost is $35, which includes souvenirs and a hot breakfast.

Juniors to play at Cambier: The Arthur L. Allen Tennis Center at Cambier Park will host the Spring Tropical Junior Super Series tournament March 17-19. This USTA-sanctioned event will have boys and girls from throughout the state competing in singles and doubles in 10s, 12s, 14s, 16s and 18s.
The entry deadline is Monday. Entrants may sign up online at usatennisflorida.com. Call 213-3060.
Singles Flex League planned: The USTA Flex league is a way for singles players to work on their games, stay in shape and meet new players. Players also get more match experience and can schedule matches around work and family schedules.
Players will be in a flight and play each opponent in that flight at an agreed-upon time and place. Matches can be one a week, two a week, three a week, and so on.
The league is open to non-USTA members as well, so results of Flex League matches do not affect USTA members’ NTRP level. All results are entered in tennislink by the players, so it is fun to view the standings each week.
Registration is now open on tennislink. Go to www.ustaflex.com
Flight play begins the week of March 19 and will run eight to 10 weeks. On March 18, all registered players will receive an email when the flights are published on tennislink, For more, contact Bob Baker at 450-0825.
