Nacho Mama’s, Joey’s Pizza win division titles

With key victories, Nacho Mama’s clinched the Island Division and Joey’s Pizza clinched first in the Marco Division in league play.

The double-loss elimination tournament begins on Monday, with games each day at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. The tournament will run to the end of the month. For game schedule go to

Casa Mia, 11, DaVinci’s, 6

DaVinci’s was leading Casa Mia 6-0 when the wheels came off the wagon. Casa Mia scored 11 runs in the seventh inning for the win. Jeff Hultgren had three hits for Casa Mia, driving in two runs, as did Jack O’Brien. Mike Puskar and Chuck Wilson had three hits each for DaVinci’s, with Puskar knocking in three runs.

Nacho Mama’s, 20, Brewery, 3

Nacho Mama’s ended the game after six innings due to the mercy rule (a 15-run differential). Jim Williams lashed out four hits and had four RBIs for Nacho Mama’s. Teammates Rich Krumholz and Jack Martin lined three hits each, with Pete Oellrich and Jim Green each driving in two runs.

Islander Restaurant, 14,

Sand Bar, 5

It was a one-run game, 6-5 in favor of Islander at the end of seven innings when Islander scored eight more for the win. Rich Schiller and Ron Hobson banged out three hits each. Fran Diotte and Mike Endelman chased three runs across the plate and Gary Lamotte and Bill Thompson two runs each. Schiller had two triples and Lamotte one for Islander. Tom McCullough drove in three runs for Sand Bar, one on a solo home run. Bill Shurina had three hits. Shurina, Jim George and Jimmy Cuevas had triples.

Islander Restaurant, 12,

Nacho Mama’s, 10

The Islander edged out first place Nacho Mama’s, maintaining a tie for second place in the Island Division going into the last game of league play. The game was tied at 8 after seven innings. The Islander scored four runs in the top of ninth, overcoming a 10-8 deficit for the victory. Herm Griffith tagged three hits, with Bill Thompson, Steve Clark, and Fran Diotte driving home two runs each for Islander. Jim Williams had two RBIs for Nacho’s.

Sand Bar, 9, DaVinci’s, 5

Behind 5-1, Sand Bar scored four runs each in the eight and ninth innings for the win. Chet Dal Bianco delivered the lethal shot in the top of the ninth, driving in three runs. Winning pitcher Jim George and Jimmy Cuevas had two RBIs, with Cuevas drilling four hits. Chuck Wilson cracked a triple, driving in two runs

Brewery, 7, Casa Mia, 3

Paul Shelton ripped four hits and Doug Smith had three, knocking in three runs for the Brewery. Teammates Dave Banghart and Craig Cunningham whacked triples. Rich Small lined three base hits for

Joey’s Pizza, 14, Rookies, 8

Joey’s muscled its way over Rookies, using the long ball. Jim Dorey had a home run as part of his three hits, good for three RBIs. Jim White rapped out three hits, as did winning pitcher Chuck Reich, who lashed two triples and Joe Kruse had a triple. Reich, White and Bill Dauch each had two RBIs. Mike Walsh and Ed Kopecky lined three hits, with Nick Brooks collecting two RBIs for Rookies.

Crazy Flamingo, 10,

Mutual of Omaha Bank, 9

Flamingo won for the third straight time by one run. Trailing going into the bottom of the last inning, Rich Larkin came up with a clutch hit to drive in the winning run. Bob Kirsinger, Fred Kramer, and Doug Patton drove home two runs each in the win, with Patton recording three hits. John Dugan and Jack Stevenson slapped out three hits each, with Dugan, Ed Brack and Roger Fleming each having two RBIs.

ADKOS, 7, CJ’s on the Bay, 2

Paul Vorwick provided all the fire power needed for ADKOS, banging a triple and knocking in three runs. Ray Zielinski hoisted a solo home run as part of his three-hit performance for CJ’s.

Crazy Flamingo, 11, ADKOS, 9

Flamingo’s win was the fourth in a row, evening its record at 10-10. Joe Furst had three hits, Doug Patton drove in three runs and John Luegering two runs for the Crazy bird. Al Bozzo drilled a triple and recorded three RBIs for ADKOS.

Rookies, 10,

Mutual of Omaha Bank, 4

Pitcher Ed Kopecky chased home three runs and Nick Brooks lashed out three hits for Rookies. Kopecky and the Bank’s Jim White, each had a triple. The Bank was limited to nine hits by Kopecky.

Joey’s Pizza, 8,

CJ’s on the Bay, 5

Winning pitcher Chuck Reich supported his cause by driving in two runs. Gary Grant stroked three hits, with Al Cenicola hammering a solo home run and Nick Jacullo a triple for Joey’s. Dan Stanard lined three hits for CJ’s.

ADKOS, 7, Rookies, 3

Pitcher Dan Callahan scattered 11 hits under blustery conditions. Paul Vorwick smacked a two-run home run to give ADKOS an early lead, 2-0, only to have Rookies tie the game in the fifth inning. ADKOS responded by scoring five runs over the last two innings, with Jan Grossman driving in two runs. Jack Evans had a perfect

Crazy Flamingo’s, 11,

CJ’s on the Bay, 3

Flamingo scored five runs in the fourth and fifth innings to overcome a CJ’s 3-0 lead. Darryl Judson chase home three runs and Fred Kramer two runs. Joe Furst belted a triple as one of his three hits for Crazy Flamingo. Jim Monnier allowed only nine hits while walking two.

Joey’s Pizza, 12,

Mutual of Omaha Bank, 3

Joey’s Pizza clinched first place in the Marco Division with the win. It was a close game, 5-3 in favor of Joey’s, when the team erupted for seven runs in the seventh inning. Winning pitcher Chuck Reich did not walk a batter and Jerry Garrett of the Bank only walked one, even though they had to deal with extremely windy conditions. Jim Dorey, Nick Jacullo, and Gary Grant stung the ball for three hits each for Joey’s. Grant and Al Cenicola each had two RBIs. Bob Grimm of Joey’s and John Dugan of the Bank each pounded a triple in

the game.
