Chris Fowler of Marco Island has been named Collier County Post-Secondary Teach of the Year.
Collier County Schools Superintendent Kamela Patton made the surprise announcement at Lorenzo Walker Institute where Fowler has taught and served as chairman of the Transportation (Education) Department.
A 16-year veteran, he oversees aviation mechanics, marine mechanics, automotive and auto body sections and serve as an instructor.
“The work is very satisfying, helping young men find a career in what they like and have the ability to get a high-paying job,” he said. “Some of the students also have difficulty learning, but find working with their hands their kind of intelligence niche.”
