The Island Country Club has crowned its 2012 Doubles Champions in the Men’s and Women’s “A” divisions.
Both events were played in round robin format, with the top two teams advancing to a championship final set.
The Round Robin portion of the Ladies event ended with Eileen Fisher and Marilyn Wrucke compiling 15 points to finish first.
Julie Maly and Keeley Miller were second with 12 points and a tie-break win over the third-place team of Rita Parr and Margie Eichman who also had 12 points. Alice Camarota and Pat Gill finished fourth with 9 points, but were the only team to win a round robin match, 5-3, over the eventual champs, Fisher and Wrucke.
Fisher and Wrucke won the final set over Maly and Miller, 6-2.
The Mens “A” group Round Robin had Larry Sexton and Brock Wilson topping out with 18 points. Second place went to Mike Delazzer and Glen Babst with 13 points. Roger Boissie and Joe Magdalener came in third and Mel Daly and Corky Trebilcock were fourth.
Sexton and Wilson edged Delazzer and Babst, 6-4 to earn their crown.
