Joey’s Pizza finished off a spectacular 2012 season in winning the Marco Division Tournament, going undefeated in tournament play, after having won the league’s regular-season Marco Division Championship.
In the Island Division Tournament Islander Restaurant also went undefeated after having finished third in
league play.
The board of directors would like to thank all the sponsors, players, fans, Marco Island Parks and Recreation, Mike Galatis for media photographs and Paul Meyer, who ran the concession stand. Their support made 2012 another successful season for Marco Island Senior Softball League

Sand Bar, 5, Nacho Mama’s, 4
The two teams battled throughout the season. They end the regular season with identical 15-7 records, with Nacho Mama’s winning the Island Division title based on a 4-2 recorded in head-to-head games played.
This time it was Sand Bar who gained the upper hand, ending Nacho’s season with its the second loss of
the tournament.
Pitchers Jim George, for Sand Bar and George Schnorr kept the batters off stride throughout the game with Schnorr only allowing eight hits and George 11. Nacho‘s scored two run in the first inning only to see Sand Bar surge back with four runs in the second to take the lead, 4-2. Ultimately the difference in the game was a sacrifice fly RBI by Bill Shurina in the seventh inning for Sand Bar, and key defensive plays in the outfield, particularly by Rich Schiller. Bob Levasseur and John Sherwin smacked triples for Sand Bar. Jim Williams ripped three base hits and drove in two runs for Nacho Mama’s.
Islander Restaurant, 12, Sand Bar, 8
In the Championship game both teams squandered early opportunities to score. The game was knotted at 4-4 after four innings when the Islanders scored four runs in the fifth, which Sand Bar could not overcome. Herm Griffith belted four doubles for Islander. Ed Kingsbury and Bill Thompson each drove in three runs, with Griffith and winning pitcher Ron Engels driving in two runs. Two of Kingsbury runs came on an opposite field triple. Jimmy Cuevas lined three hits for Sand Bar and Mike Behr recorded three RBIs.

Joey’s Pizza, 13, CJ’s on the Bay, 1
Top seeded Joey’s Pizza rolled over CJ’s behind an 18-hit assault, giving CJ’s its first loss in the tournament. With the win Joey’s moves on to the divisional
championship game.
Joe Kruse had a big day at the plate rapping out three hits, including a triple and solo home run. Chuck Reich also had three hits and drove in three runs and Al Cenicola knocked
