A 7-year-old girl was airlifted to an area hospital in serious condition Tuesday evening after being hit by vehicle as she rode a bike in Golden Gate.
Valeria Urbina was riding in an apartment complex near Green Boulevard and Heritage Circle around 6:30 p.m., according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. At the same time, a sport utility vehicle driven by Viola Georges, 46, was backing into a parking space when her rear tires traveled over a parking curb and the vehicle’s undercarriage struck Valeria, reports said.
When the SUV pulled forward, Valeria was dragged a few feet. A medical helicopter transported Valeria to Lee Memorial Hospital in serious condition, according to the FHP.
A pink, white and blue bike was visible at the scene, lodged in the passenger-side rear wheel well of the SUV. The child had tire marks on her, according to a dispatcher. Valeria was conscious and breathing, but complaining of abdominal and back pain at the scene, FHP and Collier dispatchers said.
Georges was charged with improper backing and violation of learner’s driver’s license restrictions.
