An East Naples man is facing charges of aggravated battery after deputies say he whipped his pregnant girlfriend with a telephone cord and tried to set their condo on fire.
Michael Bird, 26, of the 1100 block of Wildwood Lakes Boulevard, was arrested Wednesday by Collier deputies at home.
According to an arrest report, dispatch advised deputies of a woman on the line who was yelling at someone to stay away and get out. She also told dispatch that the man was attempting to set her condo on fire.
Deputies said when they arrived on scene they found Bird's girlfriend of a year who is seven months pregnant sitting on the curb with her four-year-old daughter.
According to reports, Bird got upset and hit his girlfriend in the head and then pulled a phone charger cord out of the wall and whipped her in the leg and back with it.
Bird's girlfriend told deputies she ran out of the room to be with her daughter when she observed Bird attempting to light a notebook on fire in the kitchen. She then ran outside to safety with her daughter and waited for deputies to arrive, according to reports.
Bird faces a charge of aggravated battery on victim who is pregnant.
