In April, contractors pulled 39 permits to build single-family houses, collectively valued at nearly $8.6 million in unincorporated Lee County.

That compares to 34 permits issued in March and 30 issued in April 2011.

Two multifamily units were permitted in April. There were none in March and two in April 2011.

Eleven new commercial permits were issued last month valued at $352,000. That was down from $3 million in March and $518,000 in April 2011.

Lee County Community Development issued 2,818 permits of all kinds in April. The department has issued a total of 10,813 permits this year.

Baskin-Robbins executives will hold two seminars Tuesday, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., to explain how to buy and own a franchise.

They will be from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Courtyard Fort Myers, 10050 Gulf Center Drive, at Interstate 75 and Gulf Coast Town Center. The company will add more than 15 new restaurants over the next several years throughout the Fort Myers, West Palm Beach and Miami areas. Executives plan to explain the benefits of joining the Baskin-Robbins brand and review opportunities available throughout Collier, Lee, Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties.
