An East Naples man critically injured in an alleged attack with a hammer earlier this week has been upgraded to fair condition.
On Monday night, Collier deputies arrested Angela Rhodes, 52, of the 2900 block of Karen Drive in connection with the aggravated battery of her former boyfriend, Thommy Whidden, 48.
Whidden was in an induced coma since being flown to Lee Memorial Hospital the night of the alleged attack, according to family. He is now listed in fair condition, hospital staff said Thursday morning.
Whidden was lying in the road not breathing when deputies arrived at Karen Drive around 9:40 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report. He had injuries to the left side of his head and blood coming from his nose, eyes and mouth.
Rhodes was upset over a recent breakup with Whidden, her partner of 18 years, according to family.
She remains in custody Thursday, facing a domestic violence charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
