Mail carriers will be picking up more than just credit card payments and late Mother's Day cards Saturday.
Unopened non-perishable foods, including canned goods, peanut butter, and soups, will be collected along with the mail Saturday in a one-day national event held annually by the National Association of Letter Carriers.
Local hunger relief agency Collier Harvest partners with the postal workers to pack and distribute donations to organizations that directly feed the hungry throughout the summer. Last year, 260,000 pounds of food were donated.
To make a donation, bag the items and set them next to your mailbox, or take them directly to the packing site Saturday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the parking lot behind Granada Shoppes, 10940 U.S. 41 North.
