New golf course planned near Eagle Creek
Plans for a private golf course, Twin Herons Golf Club, adjacent to the Eagle Creek Golf and Tennis Club, have been announced by Marco Island developer Kermit Quaintance. The Eagle Creek project was started last year by Quaintance's Invesco, Inc. as Shamrock Country Club, then sold to a Chicago group, headed by attorney Vince Solano. Twin Herons par 72 course also will be built by Invesco.
A break in was reported at the Hideaway Beach Club gardening shack and the suspect was hog-tied. That's because deputies found the suspect to be a five-foot alligator. Deputy Jerre Moore was called, hog-tied the alligator then relocated it to the back side of the Marco Island Executive Airport.
Dennis Moore of Marco Island boated a 123-pound Goliath Grouper at the second fish haven off Marco Island.
Dan Gasser won his second straight racquet ball title at the Racquet Club of Marco Island. He edged John Renshaw in two sets, 21-16 and 21-19.
Marco Islanders won Lely sports awards. Dave Centracchio was named the top fielder for the varsity baseball team, Ann Fischetti the women's most valuable player on the golf team, Matt Laccabue most valuable player on the tennis team and Keith Basik was named captain as the most valuable player on the track team.
A year from now, Sally K. Ride will be the first woman to fly into space.
Water-direct lots on Marco Island now sell between $31,500 and $79,000. Inland lots go for $$19,000 to $25,000.
