ST. PETERSBURG — Officials say a father showed up at an elementary school to retrieve a bag containing 3 ounces of marijuana and a scale he had put in his child's backpack.
St. Petersburg police say the kindergartener had given the items to the teacher by the time 25-year-old Larry Cornelius Stevens arrived at the school Tuesday morning.
The Tampa Bay Times (http://bit.ly/LDpLld ) reports Stevens asked school officials for the drugs so he could take care of his business and family. He left, but turned himself in to police later Tuesday.
Stevens told police the marijuana was for personal use. But police say the amount and the scale indicate he intended to sell it.
He was arrested on multiple charges. Police say it was unclear why Stevens put the drugs in the backpack.
