FORT MYERS — Bill Clinton is making his way back to Southwest Florida this week, but this time he’ll be in town rallying support for President Barack Obama.
The former president is scheduled to hold a rally Friday at Harborside Event Center, 1375 Monroe Street, Fort Myers. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. The event is open to the public, and tickets are not required.
Clinton will crisscross the state today as part of a last-minute, whirlwind campaign swing. He’s also scheduled to appear in Palm Beach, Palm Bay, St. Petersburg and Tallahassee.
But the campaigning doesn’t stop there. Clinton on Saturday will travel to Virginia where he’ll campaign alone for most of the day before joining Obama and singer Dave Matthews for an event in Bristow, Va., on Saturday evening.
This is the second time this week Clinton — often considered Obama’s most power surrogate — has visited the state.
Clinton stopped in Orlando — where he was scheduled to appear with Obama, who left early to monitor super storm Sandy from the White House — on Monday. There Clinton highlighted the president’s plans for the economy, education and energy.
“This is not about the candidates, this is about you and your future,” Clinton told a crowd of more than 7,000 people who attended Monday’s rally at the University of Central Florida.
“It’s about two very different approaches, and which one is more likely to build a 21st century version of the American dream.”
This isn’t Clinton’s first appearance in Southwest Florida. The 42nd president was in Naples in March 2011 as part of the Naples Philharmonic Center for the Arts’ speakers series.
Clinton isn’t the only big name politico to campaign in Southwest Florida this election season. Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan was in Fort Myers in October, while Vice President Joe Biden held a rally there in September.
Obama was scheduled to hold a campaign event at Harborside in July, but it was cut short after a gunman entered a Colorado movie theater and opened fire, killing 12 and injuring 59 others.

I was just watching television about the hurricane Sandy covering New York's Staten Island.
These people are in desperate shape and we had the back patting by the flunky president and mayor congratulating each other on how good a job they are doing. What a load of hog droppings!
Four hour gas lines if one is lucky enough to get gas, electricity still not on and may not be on until November 11th. Obama is not doing his job. Boy is this going to be an eye opener for N.Y. Democrats.
