A Golden Gate man is behind bars, accused of using a fraudulent Social Security number get a job as a tiler.

Benjamin Escalante, 30, of the 2000 block of 49th Terrace Southwest, is facing charges of worker's compensation fraud and criminal use of identification for person under 18.

In July 2012, Escalante presented a fraudulent Social Security card and Permanent Resident card to a Fort Myers-based company to get a job as a tiler, according to an arrest report. An investigation by the Florida Department of Financial Services revealed the Social Security number actually belongs to a child.

Detectives met with the child and her mother in mid-October. They confirmed that they do not know Escalante and never authorized anyone to use the Social Security number, reports said.

Detectives traveled to Escalante's work site on Thursday and arrested him. Escalante, who is from Mexico, was booked into the Collier County jail.
