A Golden Gate man is facing a felony after he was accused of striking a child with a leather belt.

Cedric L. Griffin, 35, whose exact address was not released, is facing a charge of child abuse without great harm.

Collier County sheriff's detectives were at the Children's Advocacy Center for another case when they were notified of medical exam that had just been conducted that showed significant bruising and broken skin on a boy's legs and rear, according to a highly-redacted arrest report.

They made contact with Griffin in the garage of his home, where he told them about the child hitting another boy in the face, reports said. The details of the detectives' conversation with Griffin were deleted from the arrest report, but he then showed them a brown leather belt.

Detectives made contact with the boy and matched his injuries to the injuries they had seen in the Child Advocacy Center photographs.
