Barron Collier's Decker named FACA district coach of the year

— Barron Collier's Carla Decker was named FACA District 18 Coach of the Year, and the Cougars' Lisa Dunleavy made the district all-star team, which covers Lee, Collier, Charlotte and Hendry counties.

The Cougars are playing in the Class 6A regional semifinals against Fort Myers on Tuesday. Decker is in her first year as head coach.

Joining Dunleavy on the all-star team are MVP Shelby Joslin of Evangelical Christian, who will play in the FACA All-Star Game on Dec. 2 at Saint Leo. Also on the all-star team are Fort Myers' Kenzi Gustason and Danielle Matte, Bishop Verot's Mallory Fry, Andrea Lutkenhaus of LaBelle, and Marion Chlipala of Oasis.

The district also released nominations for the Florida Dairy Farmers High School Sports Award for each class.

Lely coach Daniel Selvey and the Trojans' Samantha Howard received the coach and player of the year honors for Class 5A, while Seacrest's Jolana Fowler was named 3A Coach of the Year.

Lely and Seacrest also are playing in regional semifinals Tuesday.

Other awards: Ally Frith, Southwest Florida Christian (2A Player); Justin Altman, Southwest Christian (2A Coach); Schuyler Moore, ECS (3A Player); Ashlyn Brown, Bishop Verot, and Abby O'Ferrell, LaBelle (4A Player); Wynn DePasquale Bishop Verot (4A Coach); Gustason, Fort Myers (6A Player); and Stephanie Martin, Fort Myers (6A Coach).
