WEST PALM BEACH — The race for Congressional District 18 is headed to court.
Representatives for Congressman Allen West and his Democratic challenger Patrick Murphy are due in a West Palm Beach courtroom at noon Friday. Neither candidate is expected at the hearing on West's motion to impound ballots and voting machines.
Murphy is slightly ahead of West in unofficial vote tallies, and enough to avoid an automatic recount.
West's campaign says one is necessary anyway due to improprieties at the polls.
Murphy has declared himself the winner and says he'll be heading to Washington next week for House orientation. His campaign calls West's legal maneuvers "desperate."
