— It's known as the people's court because you don't need an attorney, but filing a small claims lawsuit still requires some knowledge.

That's why Collier County Clerk of Courts Dwight Brock will offer a free seminar, from 2-4 p.m. Dec. 6, to teach anyone how to file a small claims lawsuit, which involves disputes of less than $5,000.

The seminar will be at the South Regional Library, on Lely Cultural Boulevard, as part of a joint effort with the county library system. It will focus on basic requirements for filing a small claim in Collier County, including details of specific steps in the process. Brock also will explain the various forms and fees associated with the administrative processes in filing and resolving a small claims case.

The interactive seminar, which will include case examples, will enable attendees to ask questions and participate in a group discussion. However, Brock and Clerk's Office employees are prohibited from providing legal advice.

To guarantee a seat, anyone interested in attending must sign up in advance by calling 252-7542 or by using the library online registration system. Go here to sign up: http://bit.ly/cZ78TI
