The Lely boys soccer team opens district play tonight, hosting East Lee County.
Game time is 6 p.m.
Lely, 7-11-5 a year ago, has a young team, but coach Rob Schank is looking forward to the season.
"This team has a great chemistry, super attitude," he said. "They are really positive and work very hard for each other."
Including preseason, the Trojans have won three of four games.
Returners include Brandon Rodriguez and Ritchy Absolu on offense and Daniel Barrera and Jose Olalde on defense. Jose Gapi replaces Sam Lozano, an all-star goalie last season.
Lely will have strong competition in Class 4A-District 12. It includes Naples, Immokalee, Golden Gate, East Lee, Lehigh, Riverdale and Estero.
"It's a tough district and whoever gets out of district could go a long way in the state playoffs," Schank said. "These kids have been training hard and it should be a fun season."
