Couple faces child neglect charges after drug overdose

A Southwest Florida couple is facing child neglect charges after their toddler was found sobbing next to his unconscious mother, who deputies said had passed out after overdosing on drugs.

Barbara Joyce Degele, 24, and her husband, David Michael Hoffman, 37, are being held on $20,00 bond at the Collier County jail.

The couple was living in a home on Cypress Way in North Naples in June when a neighbor reported hearing screams coming from downstairs. The neighbor saw a 1-year-old boy on the lanai, sobbing next to his unconscious mother.
