North Naples woman hospitalized after fire

A North Naples woman was hospitalized for smoke inhalation Thursday afternoon after a home caught on fire around 12:40 p.m.

The fire began in the rear bedroom and filled a house at 1500 Forest Lakes Blvd. with heavy smoke, North Naples fire spokesman Jerry Sanford said. About 30 firefighters were able to control the fire by 1:30 p.m., he said.

Inside the home was Maria Arnez, 59, and her parents, Emelio and Erna Arnez, Sanford said. Maria Arnez was treated for smoke inhalation by EMS and later was taken to Physician's Regional hospital after having breathing problems, he said. The elder Arnezes were able to escape safely with the family cat, Sanford said.

The state fire marshal's office is investigating the fire but has not yet determined a cause, Sanford said.
