Man arrested after shot fired outside restaurant

At least one shot was fired late Saturday in the parking lot near a restaurant along Pine Ridge Road, east of Goodlette-Frank Road, following a fight when a man approached a woman and asked if he could have his picture taken with her, deputies say.

Lester Alvarez, 31, of 15 Ave. SW, Golden Gate Estates, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to Collier County sheriff's reports.

Alvarez and several friends had left the restaurant when a fight broke out with another group and he saw his friend being attacked. He retrieved his friend's semi-automatic pistol from the center console of the car and fired a shot to scare everyone, according to reports.

He threw the gun to the ground, but the owner retrieved it and the group left in a white Jeep. Witnesses to the fight gave a description of the vehicle, which had a broken window. Deputies stopped the vehicle on Pine Ridge Road.
