The Dolphin Tiki Bar & Grill at Anglers Cove has undergone a complete renovation, thanks to its new owners.
Vance and Barbara Vinar of Fairbault, Minn. opened the bar and grill on Wednesday to high praise from its regulars and some newcomers.
For the first time in 42 years, the entire bar faces the water, allowing a spacious view of the Marco River. Previously the bar was a square shape with half the bar patrons having their backs to the water.
The Vinars purchased the business from Charlie Wilde at the suggestion of Tom Naifeh, co-owner of Marco Polo Restaurant, with his wife Karen. The Naifehs, who have been friends with the Vinars for many years, will manage the business that also includes a second, enclosed, thatched roof dining area.
The Vinars have been coming to Marco Island since 1983, actually staying at Anglers Cove when it was a Quality Inn.
Naifeh said the business will employ about 20 people during season, although some 300 customers came in on opening day.
The bar and grill will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast begins the day at 8 a.m. Closing hours will be flexible.
The menus will have featured items, with dinners moderately priced at under $15, Naifeh said. Business phone number is (239) 394-4048.
