The initial phase of a huge expansion project at The Players Club & Spa in Lely Resort is nearly complete.
By the end of the month 12 new Har-Tru clay courts will be ready for play. A stadium court is next in line, along with a new tennis club building.
The existing seven courts will be demolished to make way for more membership parking as the club has grown to 1,800 members in seven years. Parking is expected to be completed by Christmas. The existing tennis office will become a multi-purpose area.
The present tennis office has space for staff and a small pro shop. The new facility will have staff offices, expanded pro shop, sports lounge and men and women's lockers with showers. There also will be a covered lanai with televisions and a snack bar.
George Hunt, general manager, said light lunches will be added as a new food and beverage area is developed.
Once the tennis center is complete the pool bathrooms will be expanded to include lockers and showers. Hunt expects that work to be completed in mid January.
A major project will be the renovation and expansion of the clubhouse, fitness center, spa and kitchen, which will begin between April 15 and May 1.
"We will make every effort to not disrupt our members," Hunt said.
