An Estero man is in critical condition after he was struck by a car on U.S. 41 while he attempted to prevent cats from following him across the road.
William Sandberg, 54, was attempting to cross U.S. 41 near the intersection of Corkscrew Road just after 7 p.m. Wednesday when he stopped in an outside lane to stop cats from following him, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. A 2006 Ford Mustang driven by Joseph De-Salvo, 58, also of Estero, struck Sandberg.
Sandberg was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital.
