Lely JVs known for playing at a feverish pace
Basketball was played at a feverish pitch on Tuesday night at Lely.
The varsity won in overtime on a 75-foot heave to down Naples, 64-61, while the up-tempo style of the JV team ran over Naples, 67-54.
It marked the fifth straight win for the JVs after winning the Bokamper's Thanksgiving Turkey Shoot at Barron Collier in the JV division on Saturday.
The Trojans went 3-0 in tourney play, capping off with a 63-57 win over host Barron Collier for the championship.
On Tuesday night coach Fritz Jacques Trojans took no prisoners.
You can be sure when Fritz Jacques' team is on the floor it is aggressive, on offense and defense. Most nights the JVs will commit the most fouls, but also cause the most turnovers, grab the most rebounds and, of course, score the most points.
However, it did go against them on Wednesday night when the team went cold and lost to Gulf Coast, 60-52.
Dalton Herrity and Lik Estilien lead the team on offense. Against Naples Herrity had 22 and Estilien, 20.
"Lik has looked good in every game," coach Fritz said. "Dalton Herrity is a key player every night. The defense, the whole team gives a great effort. We have a lot of athletic kids who are starting to get it on defense."
Marvin Liberiste, Wendell Jospeh, Fritzny Zieux, Logan Flowers and Gage Wheeler all get nods from Jacques.
"Wheeler is a smart kid, he puts us in the right place, I count on him a lot in a leadership role," Jacques said.
Herrity won the JV three-point-shooting contest as part of the Thanksgiving tournament.
"All the kids play in each game," Jacques said. "The amount of minutes is determined by how they are playing. We have depth and the kids learn how to play with any combination."
