An East Naples man is accused of breaking into a couple's home early Saturday in the Verona Walk community.

Around 12:30 a.m., Collier deputies said Patrick R. Althoff, 34, cut the screen door of a home on the 7900 block of Portofino Court and entered the lanai. The homeowners called 911 when they saw him trying to break in the sliding glass doors, according to an arrest report.

Deputies found Althoff riding his bicycle and attempted to pull him over. Althoff ignored them until he was stopped by a patrol car that pulled out in front of him on the sidewalk, the report said.

Althoff, of the 7900 block of Valentina Court, faces charges of burglary and resisting an officer without violence. He was released from the Naples Jail Center on Saturday after posting bonds totaling $12,500, according to jail records.
