Suspect indicted in San Carlos Park homicide

A grand jury on Wednesday indicted the suspect in a July homicide of a San Carlos Park woman during a home invasion.

Dustin Jaye, 23, is charged with first-degree murder and could face the death penalty if convicted in the stabbing death of 55-year-old Debra Striano. Lee County sheriff's deputies said Jaye and his uncle, Billy Ray Retherford Jr., 42, killed Striano as they robbed her Three Oaks neighborhood home. Deputies later found evidence, including bloody clothing and stolen items, tying Jaye and Retherford to the murder at their respective homes, an arrest report said.

Jaye is also charged with first-degree armed burglary and animal cruelty. He remains held without bond in Lee County.

Retherford was shot and killed about two weeks after Striano's death when deputies tried to arrest him in North Fort Myers. Sheriff's officials have said Retherford also killed a North Fort Myers man while on the lam.
