A 63-year-old man was arrested after authorities say he fought with a Naples police officer during a traffic stop.
Randell Lee Quinn, whose address is listed as 2001 Airport-Pulling Road, East Naples — the St. Matthew's House homeless shelter — is facing charges of assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer without violence and failure to obey a police officer.
Around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers pulled over a vehicle driving without its lights on near the intersection of U.S. 41 East and Goodlette Frank Road.
Quinn, a passenger in the vehicle, asked why they were stopped and appeared agitated, according to an arrest report. When asked for his identification, Quinn said he was not the driver and didn't have to provide it, reports said. When told that was not the case, reports say Quinn "began to tremor in anger and violently took his seat belt off."
Quinn exited the vehicle with his fists clenched and began to advance toward the officer, who drew his Taser stun gun, reports said. A second officer grabbed Quinn, who struggled with the officer, hit his head and was knocked unconscious.
Quinn continued to struggle after he was transported to the hospital.
