The Marco Island Charter Middle School home game against Southwest Florida Christian School for Thursday has been canceled.
It comes following the death of Jesse Wallington, 11, on Sunday after he was struck by lightning at a middle school football practice. The incident occurred on Wednesday. Wallington spent four days in the intensive care unit, but never regained consciousness. The boy’s parents made the agonizing decision on Sunday to take Jesse off life support after neurological tests revealed that the boy was brain dead. Plans for a memorial service on Thursday are being made.
