ST. PETERSBURG — St. Petersburg residents who live near a wild monkey say the primate needs to go, now that it has bitten a woman.
The Tampa Bay Times reports that the monkey resides in an area of tall trees and overgrown bushes in the southern part of the city. When the branches rattle loudly, neighbors know he's there.
The monkey has been on the lam for two years — wildlife officials have tried to catch him — but on Monday, the monkey bit a 60-year-old woman.
Wildlife officials think the biting incident occurred because some neighbors fed the monkey.
On Thursday, the trap that rescuers set near the victim's house remained empty except for a bag of fruit and sandwiches.
