A former viola player at Palmetto Ridge High School is accused of selling the school's instrument to a pawn shop after her graduation.
A music teacher at the school visited the pawn shop and noticed a viola with a property tag from Palmetto Ridge, according to an arrest report. The teacher told the school's principal and orchestra teacher who notified Collier deputies.
Deputies said a former student, Kiara Naomi Rodriguez-Roman, 20, pawned the $800 viola on Dec. 29. Rodriguez-Roman played the viola during her four years at Palmetto Ridge, teachers said in an arrest report.
Rodriguez-Roman, of the 1200 block of Allegiance Way in Immokalee, faces charges of grand theft and dealing in stolen property.
