Spooktacular: Marco Island Halloween celebration brings out inner ghoul in all ages

Marco's kids, and not a few parents, got to give their Halloween costumes a tryout Saturday afternoon, four days before the actual event, at the annual Spooktacular festival hosted by the city's Parks and Recreation Dept. at Mackle Park. Hundreds showed up in a wide array of personae, picking out pumpkins, consuming candy apples, watching magic tricks, and being serenaded by DJ Miguel Font in his Dracula outfit.

Volunteers and staffers joined in with the costume craziness. Recreation Manager Mindy Matusiak came as a zombie bride, while Lola Dial went with just straight zombie, and volunteer Allison Blanco chose a Day of the Dead look. None of them looked like someone you'd want to meet in a dark alley. But the kids were cute as buttons, even with their costumes blowin' in the wind. Lance Shearer/Eagle Correspondent
